How do I set up vpn connection to my Thinka device

Here are the instructions to be able to use vpn feature. There are mainly two steps; first creating certificate and second installing OpenVPN server

  1. CREATE CLIENT CERTIFICATE
  • Open Thinka web interface

  • Go Smart Support and click Start VPN KNX Access button

  • Thinka will create client certificate for vpn connection. Download this certificate by clicking Download VPN File button. This will download the certificate that you will use to connect later.

  1. INSTALL OPENVPN 
  • Download OpenVPN installer program here suitable for your computer

         You can download installer for 32 bit Windows here or for 64 bit Windows here

  • Setup OpenVPN by installer. See the details about installing OpenVPN on Windows machines here

  • Once the OpenVPN is installed on your computer, launch OpenVPN 
  • The application appears as tray icon on the bottom right of the screen. Right click on the icon and choose Import file option
  • Select the client certificate that you have downloaded before

  • Open OpenVPN application again and select Connect option
  • Once the application connected to VPN server, application icon`s color turns in to the green
  • Now your computer connected to VPN server and you are able to access Thinka device with IP addresses 10.8.0.1

  • Since Thinka device has built-in KNX IP interface, you can use 10.8.0.1 on ETS application to access knx network as well
